First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch.
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make chains, tutorial here!

To start this stitch, if you are at the beginning of a row you will make 2 chains for the half double crochet stitch. Then you'll yarn over your hook, insert your hook into the next stitch or space you want to work.
You'll then grab the yarn behind this stitch and pull it through.
You'll then have 3 loops on your hook, Yarn over again and pull that yarn through all 3 loops on your hook.
This is what the Half Double Crochet Stitch should look like when completed!
