First, with any project you’ll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch.
For this tutorial you’ll need to know how to make Chains (CH), tutorial here! How to make the Half Double Crochet Stitch (HDC), tutorial here! How to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here! How to make the Front Post Double Crochet Stitch (FPDC), tutorial here! And how to make the Back Post Double Crochet Stitch (BPDC), tutorial here!
Starting from the beginning, make an odd number of CHs
❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈
Row 1: Make 1 DC into the 3rd CH from your hook
Make 1 DC into each CH across for row 1
Row 2: Make 1 CH
Make 1 HDC into the 1st ST
FPDC into next ST
BPDC into next ST
*FPDC into next ST
BPDC into next ST
Repeat the steps above from * until you reach the last ST of your row
Make 1 HDC into the last ST of your row
Repeat row 2 for however long you want your project
This is what the Rice Stitch should look like when completed!
