We are going to make our hat from the bottom up, tutorial here!

Band:
Row 1: Make 8 CHs
Make 1 SC into the 2nd CH from your hook
Make 1 SC into each CH across
Row 2: Make 1 CH
Work 1 SC into each ST only in the Back Loops
Repeat Row 2 for however wide you want your band, leave a longer yarn tail to join the ends of your band together
I made 54 rows for my example band
Body:
Row 1: Attach new yarn to band
Make 1 CH
Make 1 SC into each ST around
SL ST into the 1st CH made to complete this row
Row 2: Make 1 CH
Make 1 SC into each ST, only working in the Back Loops
SL ST into the 1st CH made to complete this row
Repeat Row 2 for however long you want the body of your hat
I made 20 rows for my example hat
Leave a long yarn tail
You would now Seam Up your hat with that long yarn tail, tutorial here!
After Seaming Up, you can leave your hat as is or add a pom pom on top
