Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on my free crochet pattern: Granny Square Hexagon!

First, with any project you’ll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning how to make this hexagon.

There are several ways to start this motif. You can use the Magic Ring/Circle/Loop, I have a tutorial here! The Chain 4 method, I have a tutorial here! Or the Slip Stitch Method, I have a tutorial here!

I will be using the Chain 4 Method for my tutorial

For this pattern you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make a Slip Stitch (SL ST), I have a tutorial here! And how to make Double Crochet Stitches (DC), I have a tutorial here!

Row 1:

Make 4 CHs on your hook

Work 1 DC into the 4th CH or farthest CH from your hook

CH 1

1 DC into that same CH as before

1 more DC into that same CH as before

You should have 2 DC, 1 CH, 2 DC

That original CH 3 from the CH 4 counts as 1 DC

Make 1 CH

Make 2 DC + CH 1 5 more times, then SL ST into the first CHs made in this row, Fasten Off

Fasten Off tutorial here!

Row 2:

Attach new color to any CH 1 opening, make 3 CHs

Make 1 DC

Make 1 CH

Work 1 DC into that same ST/Space

Work 1 more DC into that same ST/Space

You should have 2 DC, 1 CH, 2 DC

That original CH 3 from the CH 4 counts as 1 DC

*Skip the next 2 DC/STs, work 2 DC + CH 1 + 2 DC into the next space

Repeat from * for the rest of your row, Then SL ST into the first CHs made in this row, Fasten Off

Fasten Off tutorial here!

Row 3:

Attach new color into the center of a previous 2 DC + CH 1 + 2 DC space, Make 3 CHs

Work 1 DC, CH 1, 2 DC into that same space, 1st CH 3 counts as 1 DC

*In the next open space work 2 DC

In the next open space work 2 DC + CH 1 + 2 DC

Repeat from * for the rest of your row, Then SL ST into the first CHs made in this row, Fasten Off

Fasten Off tutorial here!

You would repeat Row 3 for any future rows

As your hexagon gets bigger you will have more 2 DC clusters in between the 2 DC + CH 1 + 2 DC clusters at the corners

This is what the Granny Square Hexagon should look like when completed!
