Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on how to make the HDC Thermal Stitch!
First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch.
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Half Double Crochet Stitch (HDC), tutorial here! And how to work in the Back Loops, tutorial here!
Starting from the beginning, make any number of chains
❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈
Row 1: Work 1st HDC into 2nd CH from hook
When working your STs into the CHs, make sure you have 2 loops on top of your hook (Shown in the 2nd pic)
Repeat the step above until you reach the end of your row
Row 2: Make 2 CHs
Instead of turning your work normally, turn your work vertically
*Yarn over your hook 1 time
You'll be working your STs into these 2 loops above, the loop on the right and left
Insert your hook into the loop on the right (previous top of ST)
Insert your hook into the loop on the left (previous bottom of ST)
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Take that yarn through both loops on the ST
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Take that yarn through all 3 loops on your hook
That's 1 HDC Thermal ST made
You'd repeat these steps from * until you reach the end of your row
You'd repeat row 2 for however long you want your project
Continue to row 3 for how to complete your project
Here is my swatch with some of the above rows made
In my swatch you can see how this ridge has formed from working into those 2 loops when working your STs. This next row will be how to get rid of that ridge and finish your work
Row 3: CH 2, turn your work like normal
*Yarn over your hook 1 time
Insert your hook into the next ST + into that top loop of the ride on the back of your work
This is where you would work 1 HDC like normal: Yarn over your hook 1 time
Pull that yarn through both the ridge loop and ST
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Take that yarn through all 3 loops on your hook
Repeat these steps above from * for the rest of row 3
This is what the Half Double Crochet Thermal Stitch should look like when completed!
