Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on How to Crochet in the 3rd Loop!
First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch.
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! And how to make the Half Double Crochet Stitch (HDC), tutorial here! Be familiar with working in the Front Loops, tutorial here! And be familiar with working in the Back Loops, tutorial here!

First, we'll identify the 3rd loop,
The pic above is showing the Back Loop from the top of my swatch
This loop is the Front Loop, from the top of my work again
So now looking at the side of my work, this is the 3rd Loop, the loop right under the Front Loop
So now we'll make a regular HEDC into that 3rd loop, yarn over your hook 1 time
Insert your hook into that 3rd Loop, grab that yarn you're working with and pull through that loop, pulling up a loop on your hook
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Take that yarn through all 3 loops on your hook to complete that HDC
I did quickly want to give you all the info on how I made my swatch. 1 row regular HDC, next row HDCs into the 3rd loop, alternate between these rows
And that is How to Crochet in the 3rd Loop!
