First, with any project you’ll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch.
For this tutorial you’ll need to know how to make Chains (CH), tutorial here! How to make the Single Crochet Stitch (SC), tutorial here! How to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here! And how to make the Front Post Double Crochet Stitch (FPDC), tutorial here!
Starting from the beginning make an even number of CHs, then add 3 CHs
❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈
Row 1: Make 1 DC into the 4th CH from your hook
Then make 1 DC into each CH across for row 1
Row 2: Make 1 CH
Make 1 SC into the 1st ST
Then make 1 SC into each ST across for row 2
Row 3: Make 2 CHs
Skip over the SC from row 2, make 1 FPDC over the 1st DC from row 1
Make 1 regular DC into the next ST of row 3
*Skip over the SC from row 2, make 1 FPDC over the DC underneath from from row 1
Make 1 regular DC into the next ST of row 3
Repeat the steps above from * until you reach the end of your row
Make 1 regular DC into the top of the turning CH from row 2
Row 4: Make 1 CH
Make 1 SC into the 1st ST
Make 1 SC into each ST across for row 4
Row 5: Make 2 CHs
Make 1 regular DC into the 1st ST
Skip over the SC from row 4, make 1 FPDC over the DC underneath from from row 3
Make 1 regular DC into the next ST of row 5
*Skip over the SC from row 4, make 1 FPDC over the DC underneath from from row 3
Make 1 regular DC into the next ST of row 5
Repeat the steps above from * until you reach the end of your row
Make 1 regular DC into the top of the turning CH from row 4
Row 6: Make 1 CH
Make 1 SC into the 1st ST
Make 1 SC into each ST across for row 6
You would now repeat rows 3, 4, 5 & 6 in order for however long you want your project
This is what the Alpine Stitch should look like when completed!
