First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch.
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Single Crochet Stitch (SC), tutorial here! And how to work make the Half Double Crochet Stitch (HDC), tutorial here!
Starting from the beginning, make chains in multiples of 3 + 2
For your 1st row make 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook, then 1 SC in each CH across

Row 2: Make 3 CHs
Skip 2 STs, 1 HDC into next ST
Make 2 CHs
1 HDC into same ST as HDC just made
Skip 2 STs, make 1 HDC, CH 2, 1 HDC into the next ST
Skip 2 STs, make 1 HDC, CH 2, 1 HDC into the next ST
Repeat the step above until you reach the end of your row
1 HDC into last ST of row
Row 3: Make 2 CHs
Into previous HDC CH 2 HDC space: Make 3 HDC together
Into next previous HDC CH 2 HDC space: Make 3 HDC together
Repeat the step above until you reach the end of your row
1 HDC into last ST of row
