Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on how to make the Star Stitch!
First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch.
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Single Crochet Stitch (SC), tutorial here! And the Half Double Crochet Stitch (HDC), tutorial here!
❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈
I will be showing how to make the 1st row, then the 2 rows you will alternate between
To start: make a even # of chains, but more than 6
Insert your hook into the 1st CH and pull up a loop
Insert your hook into the 2nd CH and pull up a loop
Insert your hook into the 3rd CH and pull up a loop
Insert your hook into the 4th CH and pull up a loop
Insert your hook into the 5th CH and pull up a loop, you'll have 6 loops on your hook
Yarn over your hook 1 time, pull that yarn through all 6 loops on your hook
Make 1 chain to secure the loops
*To start your next Star ST: Insert your hook into the chain you just made, pulling up a loop
Insert your hook into the loop directly under that chain and pull up a loop on your hook
Insert your hook into the chain directly under that loop you just worked into and pull up a loop on your hook
Insert your hook into the next chain and pull up a loop on your hook
Insert your hook into the next chain and pull up a loop on your hook
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Take that yarn through all of the loops on your hook (6)
Make 1 chain to secure the loops
You would repeat these steps for the rest of your row
Make 1 HDC into the last CH of the row
After your 1st row you would make 1 'foundation' row
To start that foundation row: Make 1 chain
Make 2 SC into the 'eye' of the next previous Star ST
Make 2 SC into the 'eye' of the next previous Star ST
Repeat this step until you reach the end of your row
Make 1 SC into the last ST of your row
To start the Star ST row you will repeat: Make 2 CHs
Inset your hook into the closest CH of the ones you just made and pull up a loop
Inset your hook into the next CH of the ones you just made and pull up a loop
Inset your hook into the 1st ST and pull up a loop
Inset your hook into the 2nd ST and pull up a loop
Inset your hook into the 3rd ST and pull up a loop (6 loops on your hook)
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Pull that yarn through all of the loops on your hook
Make 1 CH to secure the loops
You would then make Star STs like I showed in the first row, I put a little * next to the stitch walk through above
Make Star STs until you reach the end of the row, make 1 HDC into the last ST to make the CH 2 made at the beginning of the row
You would then alternate between the SC foundation row and this Star ST row until you reach your desired length
This is what the Star Stitch should look like when completed!
