Photo Tutorial – How To Crochet: The Sultan Stitch!

Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on how to make the Sultan Stitch!

First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch

For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH)! And how to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here!

To begin make chains in the multiple of 4 + 5

 

❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈

 

Row 1: Make 1 DC + CH 2 + 1 DC into the 6th CH from your hook

*Skip 2 CHs, into the next one make 1 DC + CH 2 + 1 DC all into that same CH

Repeat the step above from * until you have 3 CHs left of your row

Skip 2 CHs, into the last one make 1 DC

This is what row 1 should look like

Row 2: Make 3 CHs

Make 4 DC into the 1st previous DC + CH 2 + DC space

*Make 4 DC into the next previous DC + CH 2 + DC space

Repeat the step above from * for each previous open space across

Make 1 DC into the top of previous CHs from last row

Row 3: Make 4 CHs

Make 1 DC in the space between previous single DC and 4 DC block

Skip over previous 4 DC block, in the space between them make: 1 DC + CH 2 + 1 DC

*Skip over previous 4 DC block, in the space between them make: 1 DC + CH 2 + 1 DC

Repeat the step above from * until you reach your last previous 4 DC block

Make 1 DC in the space between previous single DC and 4 DC block

Make 1 CH

Make 1 DC into the top of previous CHs

Row 4: Make 3 CHs

Make 2 DC into the 1st previous open space

Make 4 DC into the next previous DC + CH 2 + DC space

*Make 4 DC into the next previous DC + CH 2 + DC space

Repeat the step above from * until you reach the last open space of your row

Make 2 DC into the last open space of your row

Make 1 DC into the top of previous CHs

Row 5: Make 3 CHs

Skip 2 STs, In between previous @ DC and 4 DC block make: DC + CH 2 + DC

*Skip over previous 4 DC block, in the space between them make: 1 DC + CH 2 + 1 DC

Repeat the step above from * until you reach the last STs of your row

Skip 2 STs, Make 1 DC into top of previous CHs

Repeat rows 2, 3, 4 and 5 in order for however long you want your project

This is what the Sultan Stitch should look like when completed!
