Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on How to Use a Yarn Ball Winder!

For this tutorial you'll need some yarn and a yarn winder

This is the yarn winder I have, link here!

I have a list of yarn winders on my Amazon Favorites, here!

My yarn winder is originally from Knit Picks (website here) But I did buy mine through Amazon.

So we are going to start by going over the different components of the yarn winder, to get familiar with it

This component at the bottom is used to attach the yarn winder to a table/surface. You can make the plastic piece swivel up and down to make a bigger space/smaller space when attaching to the table/surface

This little metal circle/loop off to the side is where you will attach your yarn. So you'll send the end of your yarn through the center of this circle/loop

This cylinder at the top has 2 indents on each side to attach the end of your yarn, once you have it through that metal circle/loop on the side. You'll want to put that yarn end through each indent, leaving a small yarn tail. You don't want to leave a long yarn tail, it could get caught in the bottom part that spins.

So now we are ready to attach the yarn winder to a table/surface. You can see above that the table/surface goes in between the base of the yarn winder and that plastic piece. Then the metal piece at the bottom can tighten or loosen depending on needed. Once placed where you want, you need to tighten the yarn winder to the table/surface. You want it tightened while winding, because if it's loose it could fly off the table/surface while in use.

Once you get the yarn winder attached to the table/surface, you will attach the yarn you want to wind. You will send the yarn end through the metal circle/loop off to the side

Once you thread your yarn through that circle/loop, attach that end to the 2 indents to the cylinder at the top of the yarn winder

It's looking good! A tip when winding, hold the yarn near your skein/hank etc. If you don't you will end up with a loose yarn cake. It won't hold it's shape.

Other than that, you are good to start winding and making yarn cakes!

Those are all the steps on How to Use a Yarn Ball Winder!
