For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Slip Stitch (SL ST), tutorial here! And how to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here!

This blanket starts with Granny Squares in the middle, then expands from there
Row 1: To start your squares, you make a circle that turns into a square
Here is a playlist featuring more Circle tutorials here!
I am using the CH 4 method, using the last CH made as a 'circle', make your circle
Once you have your circle, make 3 CHs, then 2 DC
I made 2 DC into the 4th CH from my hook, those 1st CHs also counting as 1 DC
*CH 3
These will be the corners of our squares
Make 3 DC into the center circle, these 3 DC will be the sides
Repeat the steps above from * around until you reach the 1st CHs in this row
SL ST into those 1st CHS to complete this row
Row 2: Flip your square to the back
Attach your new yarn using a SL ST into any previous corner space
Make 3 CHs, these CHs count as 1 DC
Make 2 DC into same corner space
*CH 3, for our new corner space
Make 3 DC into same corner space
*CH 1, SK 3 STs to the next CH space
Then work: 3 DC, CH 3, 3 DC into that next CH space,
Repeat the steps above from * around
SL ST into those 1st CHS to complete this row
Row 3: Flip your square to the front
Attach your new yarn using a SL ST into any previous corner space
Make 3 CHs, these CHs count as 1 DC,
Then make: 2 DC, CH 3, 3 DC all in that same corner
*CH 1, SK 3 STs to the next CH space
Make 3 DC into next side CH space
Repeat the steps above from * for any side, you'll have more side CH spaces as your square gets bigger
Corner space: 3 DC, CH 3, 3 DC
Repeat the steps above from * around
SL ST into those 1st CHS to complete this row
You would now repeat Row 3 for how big you want your squares
I made 4 granny squares, with 4 rows each for my example blanket, you can make more for a bigger blanket, my blanket is a throw size
Then we join these granny squares to make it a rectangle blanket
I used the Join As You Go Method to join my squares:
Video tutorial here and step by step photo tutorial here!
If you want to use a different joining method, I have a playlist here!
Width Blanket Row:
Attach your new yarn using a SL ST into any previous corner space
Make 3 CHs, these CHs count as 1 DC,
Then make: 2 DC, CH 3, 3 DC all in that same corner
*CH 1, SK 3 STs to the next CH space
Make 3 DC into next side CH space
Repeat the steps above from * for any side, you'll have more side CH spaces as your square gets bigger
Corner spaces: 3 DC, CH 3, 3 DC
Then repeat the side steps above from *, then this corner step whenever you get to a corner space
Then SL ST into those 1st CHS to complete this row
You would now repeat this blanket row until you reach how wide you want your blanket
Length Blanket Row 1:
Now we have to add the length to our blanket
We are working these rows only on the long sides of our blanket to add that length
Attach your new yarn using a SL ST into any previous corner space
Make 3 CHs, these CHs count as 1 DC
Make 2 DC into that same space
*CH 1, SK 3 STs to the next CH space
Then make 3 DC into that next CH space
Repeat the steps above from * for the rest of this row
Then repeat this row on the other long side of your blanket
Length Blanket Row 2:
Attach your new yarn using a SL ST into any previous corner space
Make 4 CHs, these CHs count as 1 DC + 1 CH
*SK to next CH space, 3 DC into that space
CH 1, to skip any STs
Repeat the 2 steps above until you only have 3 STs left
Make 1 CH
Skip to the last ST, make 1 DC into that last ST to complete this row
Then repeat this row on the other long side of your blanket
You would now repeat Length Row 1 on each long side of your blanket, then repeat Length Row 2 on each long side of your blanket, to complete your blanket
This is how your Charming Rectangle Afghan should look like when completed!
