First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Single Crochet Stitch (SC), tutorial here! How to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here! And how to make the Front Post Double Crochet Stitch (FPDC), tutorial here!
Starting from the beginning, make chains in the multiple of 4 + 2
❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈
Row 1: Make 1 SC into the 2nd CH from your hook
Then make 1 SC into each CH across to complete this row
Row 2: CH 1
Then make 1 SC into each ST across to complete this row
Row 3: CH 2 (These CHs count as 1 DC)
Skip 1 ST, make 1 DC into the next ST
We're going to make our 1st Falling Leaf ST
*Yarn over your hook 1 time
Insert your hook around the next ST rows down, pulling that yarn around that ST, pulling up 1 loop on your hook
You'll have 3 loops on your hook
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Insert your hook back around that same ST, pulling that yarn around that ST, pulling up 1 loop on your hook
You'll have 5 loops on your hook
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Take that yarn through 4 loops only
1 loop left on your hook
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Take that yarn through the last 2 loops on your hook to complete that Falling Leaf ST
Make 1 DC into each of the next 3 STs
Repeat the steps above from * for the rest of this row
Row 4: CH 1
Then make 1 SC into each ST across to complete this row
Row 5: CH 2 (These CHs count as 1 DC)
Skip 1 ST, make 1 Falling Leaf ST into the next ST 2 rows down
Yarn over your hook 1 time, Insert your hook around the next ST rows down, pulling that yarn around that ST, pulling up 1 loop on your hook, You'll have 3 loops on your hook, Yarn over your hook 1 time, Insert your hook back around that same ST, pulling that yarn around that ST, pulling up 1 loop on your hook, You'll have 5 loops on your hook, Yarn over your hook 1 time, Take that yarn through 4 loops only, 1 loop left on your hook, Yarn over your hook 1 time, Take that yarn through the last 2 loops on your hook to complete that Falling Leaf ST
Make 1 DC into each of the next 2 STs
*Make 1 Falling Leaf ST into the next ST 2 rows down
Yarn over your hook 1 time, Insert your hook around the next ST rows down, pulling that yarn around that ST, pulling up 1 loop on your hook, You'll have 3 loops on your hook, Yarn over your hook 1 time, Insert your hook back around that same ST, pulling that yarn around that ST, pulling up 1 loop on your hook, You'll have 5 loops on your hook, Yarn over your hook 1 time, Take that yarn through 4 loops only, 1 loop left on your hook, Yarn over your hook 1 time, Take that yarn through the last 2 loops on your hook to complete that Falling Leaf ST
Make 1 DC into each of the next 3 STs
Repeat the steps above from * for the rest of this row
You would now repeat Rows 2, 3, 4 & 5 in order for however long your want your project
