Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on how to make the Feather Stitch!
First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch.
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! And how to make the Half Double Crochet Stitch (HDC), tutorial here!
Starting from the beginning, make chains in the multiple of 2 + 1
❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈
Row 1: Make 1 HDC into the 2nd CH from your hook
Then you would make i HDC into each CH across to complete this row
Row 2: Make 2 CHs
Make 1 HDC into the 1st ST
*CH 1, skip 1 ST, make 1 HDC into the next ST
Repeat the step above from * until you only have 1 ST left
Make 1 HDC into that last ST to complete this row
Row 3: This is our 1st Feather ST row, make 2 CHs
Make 1 HDC into the 1st ST
Make 1 CH
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Skip next ST, insert your hook into the next CH space, grab that yarn and pull it through, pulling up 1 look
(you'll have 3 loops on your hook)
*Insert your hook into the St under that CH space, grab that yarn and pull it through, pulling up 1 look
(you'll have 5 loops on your hook)
Skip next ST, insert your hook into the next CH space, grab that yarn and pull it through, pulling up 1 look
(you'll have 7 loops on your hook)
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Take that yarn through all of the loops on your hook to complete that Feather ST
Make 1 CH
To start the next Feather ST: You'll start this one in the same CH space you were just working into
Yarn over your hook 1 time, insert your hook into that same CH space, grab that yarn and pull it through, pulling up 1 look
Then you would repeat the steps above from * to complete that ST
Then you would repeat the steps above from * until you only have 1 ST + some CHs left
Make 1 HDC into that last ST, then 1 HDC into those last CHs to complete this row
Row 4: Make 2 CHs, this is our new Feather ST row
Make 1 HDC into the 1st ST
*Yarn over your hook 1 time
Insert your hook into the next/last CH space, grab that yarn and pull it through, pulling up 1 look
(you'll have 3 loops on your hook)
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Insert your hook into the CH space under the CH space you were just working into, grab that yarn and pull it through, pulling up 1 look
(you'll have 5 loops on your hook)
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Skip next ST, insert your hook into the next CH space, grab that yarn and pull it through, pulling up 1 look
(you'll have 7 loops on your hook)
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Take that yarn through all of the loops on your hook to complete that ST, make 1 CH
Same as the last Feather ST row, you'll be using the same CH space to start the next Feather ST
Repeat the steps above from * until you only have 1 ST + some CHs left
You would then make 1 HDC into that last ST and 1 HDC into the top of those last CHs to complete this row
You would now Repeat Row 4 for however long you want your project
This is what the Feather Stitch should look like when completed!
