Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on how to make the Harlequin Stitch!
First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Single Crochet (SC), tutorial here! How to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here! How to make the Double Crochet Increase (DC INC), tutorial here! And how to make the Double Crochet Decrease (DC DEC), tutorial here!
Starting from the beginning, make chains in the multiple of 8 + 1
❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈

Row 1: Make 3 DC into the 5th CH from your hook

Make 1 CH

Make 3 DC into the same CH as the 1st 3 you had made

*Skip 3 CHs, make 1 SC into the next CH

Skip 3 CHs, make (3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC) into the next CH

Repeat the steps above from * for the rest of this row

Row 2: Make 3 CHs, skip the 1st ST

Make a DC DEC over the next 3 STs
(Yarn over your hook 1 time, insert your hook into the next ST, grab that yarn and pull it through, pulling up 1 loop, yarn over your hook 1 time, take that yarn through 2 loops only) repeat for each of the 3 STs, then yarn over your hook 1 time and take that yarn through all the loops left on your hook to complete that DC DEC

*Make 7 CHs

We're now going to make a 6 DC DEC over 3 STs, SK 1, then 3 more STs
So 1st we will make a 3 DC DEC over the 1st 3 STs:
(Yarn over your hook 1 time, insert your hook into the next ST, grab that yarn and pull it through, pulling up 1 loop, yarn over your hook 1 time, take that yarn through 2 loops only) repeat for each of the 3 STs, leave all of those loops on your hook
SKIP the next ST,
Next 3 STs:
(Yarn over your hook 1 time, insert your hook into the next ST, grab that yarn and pull it through, pulling up 1 loop, yarn over your hook 1 time, take that yarn through 2 loops only) repeat for each of the 3 STs, then yarn over your hook 1 time and take that yarn through all the loops left on your hook to complete that 6 DC DEC

Repeat the steps above from * until you have 3 STs left + 1 CH
Make a DC DEC over the last 3 STs
(Yarn over your hook 1 time, insert your hook into the next ST, grab that yarn and pull it through, pulling up 1 loop, yarn over your hook 1 time, take that yarn through 2 loops only) repeat for each of the 3 STs, then yarn over your hook 1 time and take that yarn through all the loops left on your hook to complete that DC DEC

Then make 1 DC into that last CH to complete this row

Row 3: Make 3 CHs, skip the 1st ST

Make 3 DC into the next ST

*Over the next CH space, into the CH space between STs in Row 1, make 1 SC

Skip to the next ST, make (3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC) into that ST

Repeat the steps above from * until you only have some STs + some CHs left

Make 3 DC into the last ST

Make 1 DC into the top of those last CHs to complete this row

Row 4: Make 3 CHs, skip 1st ST

*Make 7 CHs

Skip the next CH space,
Then we are going to make a 6 DC DEC over 3 STs, SK 1, then 3 more STs

Repeat the steps above from * until you only have some CHs left

Make 1 DC into the top of those last CHs to complete this row

Row 5: Make 3 CHs

Make 1 DC into the 1st ST

Make 3 DC into the next ST
*Over the next CH space, into the CH space between STs in Row 3, make 1 SC
Skip to the next ST, make (3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC) into that ST
Repeat the steps above from * until you only have some CHs left

Make 1 DC into the top of those last CHs to complete this row
You would now repeat Rows 2, 3, 4 & 5 in order however long you want your project

This is what the Harlequin Stitch should look like when completed!
