Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on how to make the Staggered Half Double Crochet Stitch!

First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch.

For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Half Double Crochet Stitch (HDC), tutorial here! And how to make the Half Double Crochet Decrease (HDC DEC), tutorial here!

Starting from the beginning, make an odd number of chains

Row 1: Make 1 HDC DEC into the 3rd and 4th CH

Yarn over, insert your hook into the 3rd CH, grab that yarn, pull it through, pulling up 1 loop, yarn over again, insert your hook into the 4th CH, grab that yarn, pull it through, pulling up 1 loop, yarn over again, take that yarn through all of the loops on your hook to complete

*Make 1 CH

Make 1 HDC DEC into the next 2 CHs

Yarn over, insert your hook into the next CH, grab that yarn, pull it through, pulling up 1 loop, yarn over again, insert your hook into the next CH, grab that yarn, pull it through, pulling up 1 loop, yarn over again, take that yarn through all of the loops on your hook to complete

Repeat the steps above from * until you only have 1 CH left

Make 1 HDC into that last CH to complete this row

Row 2: CH 2

We're going to be making those same HDC DEC like in our last row, we'll be working into STs + CH spaces, instead of CHs

*Make 1 HDC DEC into the 1st ST/next + next 1 CH space

Yarn over, insert your hook into the 1st/next ST, grab that yarn, pull it through, pulling up 1 loop, yarn over again, insert your hook into the next CH space, grab that yarn, pull it through, pulling up 1 loop, yarn over again, take that yarn through all of the loops on your hook to complete
