First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch.
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! And how to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here!

Starting at the beginning, make any number of chains for how wide you want your blanket
I made 176 for my example blanket
Row 1: Make 1 DC into the 3rd CH from your hook
Make 1 DC into each CH across for row 1
Row 2: Make 2 CHs
Make 1 DC into each ST across for row 2
You would now repeat row 2 for however long you want your project

For my stripes:
Big stripes: Rows of 6
Small Stripes: Rows of 2
I made 10 panels total of 1 big stripe and 1 small stripe
This is what the Simple Striped Blanket should look like when completed!
