First, with any project you’ll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch.
For this tutorial you’ll need to know how to make Chains (CH), tutorial here! How to make the Slip Stitch (SL ST), tutorial here! How to make the Half Double Crochet Stitch (HDC), tutorial here! How to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here! How to make the Triple Crochet Stitch (TR), tutorial here! How to make the Puff Stitch (PF), tutorial here! So this blanket is made up of Sunburst Granny Squares, so we'll be learning how to make those first.
We are going to make a circle that turns into a square. I have a playlist featuring techniques on How to Start a Circle here! You can pick your favorite one to use. I will be using the CH 4 method, tutorial here!
Row 1: Make 4 CHs
SL ST into the 4th CH from your hook
Make 3 CHs (These CHs count as 1 DC)
Make 1 DC into the circle made from the SL ST
Then make 15 DC into that same circle space, SL ST into the beginning CHs of this row to complete it
Row 2: Make 1 CH
1 PF into the same ST
Make 1 CH
*Make 1 PF into the next ST
Make 1 CH
Repeat the steps above from * around, then SL ST into the 1st CHs of this row
Row 3: (Start at previous CH 1 space) Make 2 CHs
1 CL into that same space
Make 2 CHs
*Skip to next previous CH 1 space, make 1 CL
Make 2 CHs
Repeat the steps above from * around, then SL ST into the 1st CHs of this row
Row 4: (Start at previous CH 2 space) This is where we turn the circle into a square, make 4 CHs
Make 1 TR into that same space
Make 3 CHs
Make 3 TR into that same space, this is our first corner
*Skip to next previous CH 2 space, make 3 DC
Skip to next previous CH 2 space, make 3 HDC
Skip to next previous CH 2 space, make 3 DC, this is our first side
Starting our next corner, skip to next previous CH 2 space, make 3 TR
Make 3 CHs
Make 3 TR into that same space
Repeat the steps above from * around, for a total of four corners and four sides, then SL ST into the 1st CHs of this row
So now you'll make as many Sunburst Granny Squares as you want for the size blanket you want. I made 100 total squares for my example blanket.
Then you'll need to join the squares together. I used the Windsor Join to join my squares together, tutorial here! But if you want to use a different Join, I have a playlist featuring more here!
This is what the Stunning Sunburst Blanket should look like when completed!
