First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch.
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here! And how to make the Double Crochet Spike Stitch (DC SPIKE), tutorial here!
Starting from the beginning, make chains in the multiple of 4
❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈
Row 1: Make 1 DC into the 4th CH from your hook
Make 1 DC into the next CH
Make 1 DC into the next CH, so 3 DC made so far
Make 1 DC Spike into the 1st DC made in this row
*Skip 1 CH, Make 1 DC into the next 3 CHs
Make 1 DC Spike into the 1st DC made after skipping the 1 CH
Repeat the steps above from * until you have 3 CHs left in your row
Skip 2 CHs, make 1 DC into the last CH of your row
Row 2: Make 3 CHs
This is where we repeat the sequence from our last row,
Skip 1st ST, make 1 DC into the next 3 STs
Make 1 DC Spike into the 1st DC made in this row
*Skip 1 ST, make 1 DC into the next 3 STs
Make 1 DC Spike into the 1st DC made after skipping the 1 ST
Repeat the steps above from * until you reach the last ST of your row
Make 1 DC into the last ST of your row
Repeat row 2 for however long you want your project
This is what the Diagonal Spike Stitch should look like when completed!
