Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on how to make the Open Shell Stitch!
First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Single Crochet Stitch (SC), tutorial here! And how to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here!
To begin make chains in the multiple of 12 + 2
❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈
Row 1: Make 1 SC into the 2nd CH from your hook
*Skip 2 CHs, into the next one make 3 DC + CH 1 + 3 DC all into that same CH
Skip 2 CHs, into that next CH make 1 SC
Skip 2 CHs, into the next one make 1 DC + CH 3 + 1 DC all into that same CH
Skip 2 CHs, into that next CH make 1 SC
Repeat the steps above from * until you reach the end on your row, Skip 1 CH, then make 1 SC into the last CH of your row
Here's what row 1 should look like
Row 2: Make 3 CHs
*Into any previous DC + CH 3 + DC you'll make: 3 DC + CH 1 + 3 DC
Skip over to the next previous CH 1 space, Into any previous 3 DC + CH 1 + 3 DC you'll make: DC + CH 3 + DC
Repeat the steps above from * until you reach the end on your row
Make 1 DC into the tops of the previous turning CHs from your last row
Repeat row 2 however long you want your project
This is what the Open Shell Stitch should look like when completed!
