Here is the free pattern/tutorial:
Materials:
Yarn – Any yarn will work – I used Medium/DK weight for my example hat
Crochet hook – Any hook will work – I used a I hook for my example hat– 5.5 MM
Scissors
Stitch Markers
Crochet Stitches Needed:
Chain – CH
Stitch – ST
Skip – SK
Slip Stitch (SL ST):

Pattern:
Band:
CH 8,
Row 1: 1 SC in 2nd CH from hook, 1 SC in each CH across
Row 2: (BLO) 1 SC in each ST across
Repeat row 2 for your desired length. This will be the band that fits around your head. Adjust by adding or subtracting rows where needed. (I made 54 rows for my example band)
Fasten Off, Leave long tail to attach ends of the band together, Sew/weave the ends together to form the band, then continue to the next row
Body:
Row 1: Attach yarn to any previous ST, make 1 CH, 1 SC into each ST around, SL ST into the 1st CHs made in this row
Row 2: Attach yarn to any previous ST, CH 1, 2 HDC into same ST, *SK 2 STs, (SC + 2 HDC) into the next ST, repeat from * around, SL ST into the 1st CHs made in this row
Row 3: Attach yarn to any previous SC ST, CH 1, 2 HDC into same ST, *SK 2 STs, (SC + 2 HDC) into the next ST, repeat from * around, SL ST into the 1st CHs made in this row
Repeat Row 2 for how long you want the body of your hat, I made 20 rows for the body of my my example
Fasten Off,
Leave long tail of yarn to Seam Up the top of your hat
