Thanks for visiting my page! I love this beautiful square. Another free square pattern from me; My Vintage Vibes Square is so cute and I love the vintage feels I get from it! This square uses basic crochet stitches to work up and would look so cute in different colors! Quick to work up and would work for so many patterns!

Here is the free pattern/tutorial:
Materials:
Yarn – Any yarn will work – I used Medium/DK weight for my example square
Crochet hook – Any hook will work – I used a ‘I’ hook for my example square – 5.5 MM
Scissors
Stitch Markers
Crochet Stitches Needed:
Chaining – CH
Stitch – ST
Skip – SK
Slip Stitch (SL ST):

Shell Stitch (SH ST): 4 DC into same CH/ST/Space

Pattern:
Row 1: CH 5, the first 3 CHs from the 5 you just made count as 1 DC, the 4th CH counts as the CH in a V ST, make 1 DC into first CH made, CH 2, 1 V ST in same space as DC just made, CH 2, 1 V ST in same space, CH 2, 1 V ST in same space, CH 2, SL ST into first DC (the initial CH) to finish row
Row 2: CH 4, (CH 4 just made counts as half of a V ST) 1 DC in open same space as CH 4 just made, *at the corner: 1 DC, CH 1, 1 DC, CH 2, 1 DC, CH 1, 1 DC in open corner space, 1 V ST in next open space, repeat from * until you get to the first CH 4 you made in this row, SL ST into first DC (the initial CH) to finish row
Row 3: CH 4, (CH 4 just made counts as half of a V ST) 1 DC in open same space as CH 4 just made, 1 V ST in next open space, *at the corner: 1 DC, CH 1, 1 DC, CH 2, 1 DC, CH 1, 1 DC in open corner space, 1 V ST in next open space, 1 V ST in next space, repeat 1 V ST in each space until you get to a corner, then repeat from * until you get to the first CH 4 you made in this row, SL ST into first DC (the initial CH) to finish row
Row 4: Repeat Row 3, 1 V ST in each open space along the sides, (1 V ST, CH 2, 1 V ST @ the corners.)
Row 5 (Border): CH 2, CH 2 just made counts as 1 HDC, 4 HDC in same space as CH 2 just made, that makes 1 SH ST, *SL ST into next open space, 1 SH ST in next open space, repeat until you reach the corner, @ corners: (3 HDC, CH 2, 3 HDC), repeat from * until you get to the first CH 2 you made in this row, SL ST into first HDC (the initial CH) to finish row
