Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on my free crochet pattern: Off Set Granny Square!
First, with any project you’ll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning how to make this square.
There are several ways to start this motif. You can use the Magic Ring/Circle/Loop, I have a tutorial here! The Chain 4 method, I have a tutorial here! Or the Slip Stitch Method, I have a tutorial here!
I will be using the Chain 4 Method for my tutorial. I also Fasten Off each of my rows and attach a new color in openings from previous rows.
For this pattern you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make a Slip Stitch (SL ST), I have a tutorial here! And how to make Double Crochet Stitches (DC), I have a tutorial here!
❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈
Make 4 Chains, work 2 DC into 4th CH from your hook, CH 2, 3 DC into same CH, CH 2, work 3 DC into same CH, CH 2, work 3 DC into same CH, CH 2, SL ST into the 1st CH made in this row
Row 2: CH 3, 2 DC into the same space as CH 3 just made, CH 1, *3 DC in corner space, CH 2, 3 DC into same space, CH 1, repeat from * around the square, SL ST into first CH 3 made in this row.
Your first 2 rows are exactly like a regular Granny Square, tutorial here!
Attach new color in corner space, make 3 CHs
Make 2 DC into same corner space
Make 1 CH
3 DC into next open space
CH 1
3 DC into next corner space
CH 2
3 DC into same corner space
Repeat the CH 1, work 3 DC into the next open space until you reach the end of the row
Work 3 DC into next corner space
Ch 4 and turn your work
Work 3 DC into next open space
Repeat the CH 1, work 3 DC into the next open space until you reach the first corner space
Work 3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC into the corner space
Repeat the CH 1, work 3 DC into the next open space until you reach the end of your row
Make 1 CH
1 DC into last ST of row
Attach new yarn color at that last ST made, CH 3 and turn your work
Work 2 DC into that first open space near the CHs just made
You'll repeat the steps from the last row made. In any open space work 3 DC, inbetween work 1 CH, at the corners work 3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC. Then in the last ST work 1 DC to end your row
You would repeat these 4 rows (pink and brown) for however long you want your square
In my pic below I made a regular Granny Square row for a border
This is what the Off Set Granny Square should look like when completed!
