Just 1 crochet stitch to learn
This square would be amazing for so many different projects!

Here is the free pattern/tutorial:
Materials:
Yarn – Any yarn will work – I used Medium/DK weight for my example square
Crochet hook – Any hook will work – I used a I hook for my example square – 5.5 MM
Scissors
Stitch Markers
Notes:

Crochet Stitches Needed:
Chain – CH
Stitch – ST
Skip – SK
Double Crochet Stitch (DC):

Pattern:
Make an even number of chains, I made 30 chains for my example square
You’ll want an even amount of open spaces on each side of the heart
FILET ROWS:
Row 1: Make 1 DC into the 6th CH from your hook, *CH 1, SK 1 CH, 1 DC into next CH, repeat from * for the rest of this row
Row 2: CH 3, SK 1st ST, SK 1st open space, *make 1 DC into next ST, CH 1, SK next open space, repeat from * for the rest of this row
HEART ROWS:
Row 3: CH 3, SK 1st ST, SK 1st open space, *make 1 DC into next ST, CH 1, SK next open space, repeat from * until you reach the middle open space of your square, make 1 DC into the next open space, then repeat from * for the rest of this row (1 closed space)
Row 4: CH 3, SK 1st ST, SK 1st open space, *make 1 DC into next ST, CH 1, SK next open space, repeat from * until you reach the open space before the closed one in your last row, make 1 DC into that open space, make 1 DC into each of the next 3 STs, make 1 DC into the next open space, then repeat from * for the rest of this row (3 closed spaces)
Row 5: CH 3, SK 1st ST, SK 1st open space, *make 1 DC into next ST, CH 1, SK next open space, repeat from * until you reach the open space before the closed spaces, make 1 DC into the next open space, make 1 DC into each ST until you reach the next open space, make 1 DC into the next open space, then repeat from * for the rest of this row (5 closed spaces)
Row 6: CH 3, SK 1st ST, SK 1st open space, *make 1 DC into next ST, CH 1, SK next open space, repeat from * until you reach the open space before the closed spaces, make 1 DC into the next open space, make 1 DC into each ST until you reach the next open space, make 1 DC into the next open space, then repeat from * for the rest of this row (7 closed spaces)
Row 8-11: CH 3, SK 1st ST, SK 1st open space, *make 1 DC into next ST, CH 1, SK next open space, repeat from * until you reach the open space before the closed spaces, make 1 DC into the next open space, make 1 DC into each ST until you reach the next open space, make 1 DC into the next open space, then repeat from * for the rest of this row (9 closed spaces)
Row 12: CH 3, SK 1st ST, SK 1st open space, *make 1 DC into next ST, CH 1, SK next open space, repeat from * until you reach the closed spaces in this row, make 1 DC into each of the next 9 STs, CH 1, SK 1 ST, make 1 DC into each of the next 9 STs, then repeat from * for the rest of this row
Row 13: CH 3, SK 1st ST, SK 1st open space, *make 1 DC into next ST, CH 1, SK next open space, repeat from * until you reach the closed spaces in this row, make 1 DC into the next ST, CH 1, SK 1 ST, make 1 DC into each of the next 5 STs, CH 1, SK 1 ST, make 1 DC into next ST, CH 1, SK open space, make 1 DC into next ST, CH 1, SK 1 ST, make 1 DC into each of the next 5 STs, CH 1, then repeat from * for the rest of this row
FILET ROWS:
Row 14 & Row 15: CH 3, SK 1st ST, SK 1st open space, *make 1 DC into next ST, CH 1, SK next open space, repeat from * for the rest of this row
