Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on how to make my Building Blocks Afghan!
First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this blanket
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Slip Stitch (SL ST), tutorial here! How to make the Single Crochet Stitch (SC), tutorial here! And how to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here!
There are several ways to start this blanket. You can use the Magic Ring/Circle/Loop, I have a tutorial here! The Chain 4 method, I have a tutorial here! Or the Slip Stitch Method, I have a tutorial here! I will be using the Chain 4 Method for my tutorial.
❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈
Row 1: Make a circle,
I'm using the CH 4 method, so I made 4 CHs
Make 3 CHs (counts as 1 DC), then make 2 DC into that circle space
I made 2 DC into the 4th CH from my hook
*Make 2 CHs, this will be our corner spaces
Make 3 DC into the center circle space
These 3 DC count as 1 side of your square
Repeat the steps above from * until you reach the CHs you made at the beginning of this row
SL ST into those 1st CHs to complete this row
You'll have 4 sets of 3 DC and 4 sets of CH 2s for your square so far
Row 2: Start at any corner space, Make 4 CHs
*Make 1 SC into the same corner space
Make 3 CHs to skip 3 STs, the 3 DC from our last row
Make 1 SC into the next corner space
Make 3 CHs
Repeat the steps above from * until you reach the 1st CHs you made in this row
SL ST into those 1st CHs you made in this row to complete
Row 3: Start at any corner space, make 3 CHs
Make 2 DC into that same corner space
Make 2 CHs
Make 3 CHs in the same corner space
*Make 3 DC into each previous CH 3 space across each side
There will be more as your square gets bigger
Next corner space: 3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC
Repeat the steps above from * until you reach the 1st CHs you made in this row
SL ST into the 1st CHs you made in this row to complete
Row 4: Start at any corner space, Make4 CHs
Make 1 SC into the same corner space
*Make 3 CHs, to skip 3 STs
Make 1 SC into the space between STs
You'll repeat these steps across each side,
until you reach the next corner space
Corner space: 1 SC, CH 3, 1 SC
Repeat the steps above from * until you reach the 1st CHs you made in this row
SL ST into those CHs to complete this row
Alternate between Rows 3 & 4 for however big you want your project
This is what my Building Blocks Afghan should look like when completed!
