First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this motif.
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), tutorial here! How to make the Slip Stitch (SL ST), tutorial here! How to make the Single Crochet Stitch (SC), tutorial here! How to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here! How to make the Triple Crochet Stitch (TR), tutorial here! And how to make the Puff Stitch (PF ST), tutorial here!
There are several ways to start this motif. You can use the Magic Ring/Circle/Loop, I have a tutorial here! The Chain 4 method, I have a tutorial here! Or the Slip Stitch Method, I have a tutorial here!

Row 1: I'm starting with 4 CHs to make a circle
SL ST into the 1st CH made, to make a circle
Once you have a circle made, make 3 CHs
Then make 11 DC into that center circle
Then SL ST into those 1st CHs you made to complete this row
Row 2: (Start at any previous ST) CH 2
Make 1 PF ST into that same ST, then make 1 CH
Make 1 PF ST + 1 CH into each ST around
Then SL ST into those 1st CHs you made to complete this row
Row 3: (Start at any previous CH 1 space) Make 4 CHs
*SK 1 ST, make 1 SC into the next CH space
Make 3 CHs
Repeat the steps above from * around, until you reach the 1st CHs you made in this row
Then SL ST into those 1st CHs you made to complete this row
Row 4: (Start at any previous CH space) Make 2 CHs
*Make 3 DC into same CH space
Make 1 CH
Make 1 SC into same CH space
Skip to the next CH space, make 1 SC into that space
Make 1 CH
Repeat the steps above from * around, until you reach the 1st CHs you made in this row
Then SL ST into those 1st CHs you made to complete this row
Row 5: (Start at any previous middle DC of a set of 3) Make 4 CHs
Make 2 TR into same ST
Make 3 CHs
Make 3 TR into that same ST
*Make 1 CH
Skip to next middle DC of the next set of 3, make 3 DC into that ST
Make 1 CH
Skip to next middle DC of the next set of 3, make 3 DC into that ST
Make 1 CH
Skip to next middle DC of the next set of 3, make (3 TR, CH 3, 2 TR) into that ST
Repeat the steps above from * around, until you reach the 1st CHs you made in this row
Then SL ST into those 1st CHs you made to complete this row
This is what the Soft Meadows Granny Square should look like when completed!
