Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on how to make the Box Checkerboard Stitch!
First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Single Crochet Stitch (SC), tutorial here! And how to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here!
Starting from the beginning, make chains in the multiple of 4 + 5

Row 1: Make 1 SC into the 2nd CH from your hook
*Make 4 CHs
Skip 3 CHs, make 1 SC into the next CH
Repeat the steps above from * for the rest of this row
Row 2: Make 3 CHs
*SK 1 ST, Make 4 DC into the next CH space
Make 2 CHs
SK 1 ST, make 1 SC into the next CH
Make 2 CHs
Repeat the steps above from * until you only have 1 ST left
Make 1 DC into that last ST to complete this row
Row 3: Make 1 CH
Make 1 SC into the 1st ST
*Make 4 CHs
Skip to the next CH space, make 1 SC into that space
Repeat the steps above from * until you only have some CHs left
Make 1 SC into the top of those last CHs to complete this row
Row 4: Make 5 CHs
SK 1 ST, make 1 SC into the 1st ST
*Make 2 CHs
SK 1 ST, make 4 DC into the next CH space
Make 2 CHs
SK 1 ST, make 1 SC into the next CH space
Repeat the steps above until you only have 1 ST left
Make 1 DC into that last ST to complete this row
Row 5: Make 1 CH
Make 1 SC into the 1st ST
Make 4 CHs
SK 1st CH space, SK next ST, make 1 SC into the next CH space
*Make 4 CHs
SK to the next CH space, make 1 SC into that next CH space
Repeat the steps above from * until you only have 1 CH space left
Make 1 SC into that last CH space to complete this row
You would now repeat Rows 2, 3, 4 & 5 in order for however long you want your project
This is what the Box Checkerboard Stitch should look like when completed!
