Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on how to make the Modern Granny Stitch!
First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here! How to make the Double Crochet Decrease (DC DEC), tutorial here! And be familiar with the regular Granny Stripe Stitch, tutorial here!
Starting from the beginning, make chains in the multiple of 3 + 1
❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈
Row 1: Make 1 DC into the 4th CH from your hook
*Skip 2 CHs, make 3 DC into the next CH,
repeat from * until you only have 3 CHs left in this row
Skip 2 CHs, make 1 DC into the last CH to complete this row
Row 2: Make 4 CHs
Skip 1st ST,
*DC DEC over the next 3 STs
Yarn over your hook 1 time, insert your hook into the next ST, grab that yarn, pull that yarn through the ST, yarn over your hook, take that yarn through 2 loops only, repeat this for each of the 3 STs
Make 2 CHs
Repeat from * until you only have 1 ST + some CHs left
Skip that last ST, make 1 DC into the top of the CHs at the end of this row to complete
Row 3: Make 3 CHs
Make 1 DC into the 1st ST
*Skip to the next CH space, make 3 DC into that CH space
Repeat the step above from * until you only have 1 DC DEC ST + some CHs left
Skip that last ST, make 1 DC into the top of the CHs at the end of this row to complete
You would now alternate between Row 2 & 3 for however long you want your project
This is what the Modern Granny Stitch should look like when completed!
