First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch

Starting from the beginning make an even number of chains
❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈
Row 1: 1 SC into 2nd CH from your hook
*Make 1 CH, Skip 1 CH
Make 1 SC into the next CH
Repeat the steps above from * for the rest of this row
Row 2: Make 1 CH
Make 1 SC into the 1st ST
Make 1 PF ST into the next previous CH 1 space
Make 1 CH to secure that PF ST
*Skip next SC, make 1 SC into the next previous CH 1 space
Make 1 CH to skip the next ST
Repeat the steps above from * until you have 1 ST left in this row
Make 1 SC into the last ST of this row
Row 3: Make 1 CH
Make 1 SC into 1st ST
*Make 1 CH, Skip next ST
Make 1 SC into next CH 1 space
Repeat the steps above from * for the rest of your row
Alternate between Rows 2 & 3 for however long you want your project
