Photo Tutorial – Crochet Pattern: Granny Star Motif!

Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on my free crochet pattern: Granny Star Motif!

First, with any project you’ll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning how to make this granny star.

There are several ways to start this motif. You can use the Magic Ring/Circle/Loop, I have a tutorial here! The Chain 4 method, I have a tutorial here! Or the Slip Stitch Method, I have a tutorial here!

For this pattern you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make a Slip Stitch (SL ST), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Single Crochet Stitch, tutorial here! And how to make Double Crochet Stitches (DC), I have a tutorial here!

Row 1: I will be using the Chain (CH) 4 method for my example star motif. Make 4 CHs with your hook. You'll be working into the 1st CH you made. 3 of those CHs count as 1 DC.

Make 1 DC into that same 1st CH made of CH 4. Then CH 2 (Shown Below)

You would repeat this 5 more times: 2 DC, CH 2, around until you have 6 sections. SL ST into first CHs made in this row

Row 2: Start @ a open space, attach new color, CH 3, counts as 1 DC

Work 2 DC into the same open space as CH 3 made. Then CH 2 (Shown Below)

Work 3 more DC into that same open space. Then CH 1 (Shown Below)

You would repeat this 5 more times: 2 DC, CH 2, 3 DC in same open space, then CH 1 around until you have 6 sections. SL ST into first CHs made in this row

Row 3: Start @ a open corner space, attach new color, CH 3, counts as 1 DC

Work 2 DC into same space. Then CH 3 (Shown Below)

Work 3 more DC into that space space

Then work a SC into the open space between previous DC STs (Shown Above)

You would repeat this 5 more times: 3 DC, CH 3, 3 DC in same open space, then 1 SC into next open space around until you have 6 sections. SL ST into first CHs made in this row
