Photo Tutorial - How To Crochet: Post & Shells Stitch!

Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos for the Post & Shells Stitch!

First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch.

For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here! How to make the Back Post Double Crochet Stitch (BPDC), tutorial here! And how to make the Front Post Double Crochet Stitch (FPDC), tutorial here!

Starting from the beginning, make chains in the multiple of 6 + 4

 

❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈

Row 1: Make 2 DC into the 7th CH from your hook

Make 1 CH

Make 2 DC into the same CH as DC just made

*Skip 2 CHs, make 1 DC into the next CH

Skip 2 CHs, (2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC) into the next CH

Repeat the steps above from * until you have 3 CHs left in your row

Skip 2 CHs, make 1 DC into the last CH of this row

Row 2: Make 3 CHs

Skip to 1st previous CH 1 space, make (2DC, CH 1, 2 DC) into that space

Skip to next previous single DC from your last row, work 1 BPDC around that single DC ST

*Skip to 1st previous CH 1 space, make (2DC, CH 1, 2 DC) into that space

Skip to next previous single DC from your last row, work 1 BPDC around that single DC ST

Repeat the steps above from * until you have 1 ST left + CHs in your row

Make 1 DC into the tops of those CHs from your last row

Row 3: Make 3 CHs

Skip to 1st previous CH 1 space, make (2DC, CH 1, 2 DC) into that space

Make 1 FPDC over the next single BPDC from your last row

*Skip to 1st previous CH 1 space, make (2DC, CH 1, 2 DC) into that space

Make 1 FPDC over the next single BPDC from your last row

Repeat the steps above from * until you have 1 ST left + CHs in your row

Make 1 DC into the tops of those CHs from your last row

Alternate between rows 2 & 3 for however long you want your project

This is what the Post & Shells Stitch looks like when completed!
