Here is the free pattern/tutorial:
Materials:
Yarn – Any yarn will work – I used Medium/DK weight for my example hat
Crochet hook – Any hook will work – I used a ‘I’ hook for my example hat– 5.5 MM
Scissors
Stitch Markers
Crochet Stitches Needed:
Chain – CH
Stitch – ST
Skip – SK
Single Crochet Stitch (SC):

Pattern:
Ribbed Band: CH 8
Row 1: 1 SC into 2nd CH from your hook, 1 SC into each CH across
Rows 2: (BLO) CH 1, 1 SC in each ST across
Repeat Row 2 for how wide you want your Ribbed Band
Fasten Off your work: Video tutorial here and step by step photo tutorial here!
Take ribbed band made and crochet the ends together with a SC row down the edge. It will create a ribbed effect to made the ribbed edge just made, Fasten Off, Weave Ends
BODY:
Facing the seam made on the ribbed edge, attach yarn to the stitch to the right of the seam
Row 1: CH 1, *1 SC into next ST, CH 1, SK 1 ST, repeat from * around, SL ST into the 1st CH made in this row
Row 2: (Start at a previous CH space) CH 1, *(1 SC, 2 DC) into same space, SK 1 ST, 1 SC into that ST/space, SK to n next ST/space, repeat from * around, SL ST into the 1st CH made in this row
Row 3: (Start at a previous CH space) CH 1, 2 DC into same space, *SK 1 ST, 1 SC into that ST, SK 1 ST, (1 SC, 2 DC) into the next ST, repeat from * around, SL ST into the 1st CH made in this row
Repeat Row 3 for how long you want the body of your hat
Seam up your hat when you reach your desired length
