Starting from the beginning, make chains in the multiple of 8 + 5
I made 157 chains for my example blanket
Row 1: Make 1 DC into the 5th CH from your hook
*Skip 3 CHs, make 5 DC into the next CH
Skip 3 CHs, make 1 DC V into the next CH
Repeat the steps above from * for the rest of this row
Row 2: Make 3 CHs
Skip 1st ST, Make 2 DC into the 1st DC V ST space
*Skip to middle DC of previous 5 DC, make 1 DC V into that ST
Skip to next previous DC V ST space, make 5 DC into that ST space
Repeat the steps above from * until you only have 1 DC V left
Make 3 DC into that last DC V ST space to complete
Row 3: CH 4
Make 1 DC into the 1st ST
*We'll be making the same STs, just working the opposite ones for this row
Make 5 DC into each DC V ST space
Make 1 DC V into each middle DC of any previous 5 DC
Repeat the steps above from * until you have 3 STs left
Skip 2 STs, make 1 DC V into the last ST/CHs to complete
You would now alternate between Rows 2 & 3 for however long you want your blanket
