First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this blanket pattern
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here! How to make the Front Post Double Crochet Stitch (FP DC), tutorial here! How to make the Back Post Double Crochet Stitch (BP DC), tutorial here! How to make the Puff Stitch (PF ST), tutorial here! And how to make the Hearts & Cables Stitch, tutorial here!

Starting from the beginning, make chains in the multiple of 5 + 4, I made 154 chains for my example blanket
Row 1: Make 1 DC into the 3rd CH from your hook
Make 1 DC into the next CH
*Skip 2 CHs, make (1 PF ST, CH 1, 1 PF ST, CH 1) into the next CH
Skip 2 CHs, make 1 DC into the next CH
Repeat the steps above from * until you only have 5 CHs left
Skip 2 CHs, make 1 DC into each of the last 3 CHs to complete this row
Row 2: Make 3 CHs, these CHs count as 1 DC, you can skip the 1st ST
Make 1 BPDC over the next ST
Make 1 DC into the next ST
*Make 1 BPDC over the next ST/
Into next previous space between PF STs make: (1 PF ST, CH 1, 1 PF ST, CH 1)
Repeat the steps above from * until you reach the last STs + some CHs left
Make 1 DC into the next ST
Make 1 BPDC over the next ST
Make 1 DC into the top of those last CHs to complete this row
Row 3: Make 3 CHs, these CHs count as 1 DC, so you can skip the 1st ST
Make 1 FPDC over the next ST
Make 1 DC into the next ST
*Into next previous space between PF STs make: (1 PF ST, CH 1, 1 PF ST, CH 1)
Make 1 FPDC over the next ST
Repeat the steps above from * until you reach the last STs + some CHs left
Make 1 DC into the next ST
Make 1 FPDC over the next ST
Make 1 DC into the top of those last CHs to complete this row
You would now alternate between Rows 2 & 3 for however long you want your project
This is what my Heart Of Gold Afghan should look like when completed!
