Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on how to make the Fishbone Stitch!
First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch.
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Slip Stitch (SL ST), tutorial here! How to make the Single Crochet Stitch (SC), tutorial here! And how to make the Half Double Crochet Stitch (HDC), tutorial here!
Starting from the beginning, make chains in the multiple of 3 + 1
❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈
Row 1: Make 1 SC into the 2nd CH from your hook
Then make 1 SC into each CH across
Row 2: CH 2
Make 1 HDC into each of the next 2 STs
First Row 2 Fishbone ST: Yarn over your hook 1 time
Insert your hook around the HDC you had just made, pull that yarn around, pulling up 1 loop
You'll have 3 loops on your hook
*Yarn over your hook 1 time
Insert your hook into the CH under the previous HDC you had just made, pull that yarn through that CH, pulling up 1 loop
You'll have 5 loops on your hook
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Insert your hook into the next ST, pull that yarn through that ST, pulling up 1 loop
You'll have 7 loops on your hook
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Take that yarn through all of the loops on your hook to complete that ST
To start the next one: Yarn over your hook 1 time
Insert your hook around that last Fishbone ST made, pull that yarn around that ST, pulling up 1 loop
Repeat the steps above from * until you only have 1 ST left
Make 2 HDC into that last ST to complete this row
Row 3: CH 2
Make 1 HDC into each of the next 2 STs
Row 3 Fishbone ST: Yarn over your hook 1 time
Insert your hook around the LAST HDC you had made, grab that yarn, pull it around that ST, pulling up 1 loop
You'll have 3 loops on your hook
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Insert your hook into the ST where you just made the FIRST HDC, grab that yarn, pull it through, pulling up 1 loop
You'll have 5 loops
Yarn over your hook 1 time
*Insert your hook into the next ST, grab that yarn, pull it through, pulling up 1 loop
You'll have 7 loops
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Take that yarn through all of the loops on your hook to complete that ST
Next One: Yarn over your hook 1 time
You'll insert your hook around the 1st part of the last ST you made, grab that yarn, pull it through, pulling up 1 loop
You'll have 3 loops on your hook
Yarn over your hook 1 time
Then you'll insert your hook under the 1st part of the last ST you made, grab that yarn, pull it through, pulling up 1 loop
Repeat the steps above from * until you only have 1 ST left
Make 2 HDC into that last ST to complete this row
You would now repeat Row 3 for however long you want your project
This is what the Fishbone Stitch should look like when completed!
