Photo Tutorial – How To Crochet: Half Double Crochet Alpine Stitch!

Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on how to make the Half Double Crochet Alpine Stitch!

First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch

For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Half Double Crochet Stitch (HDC), tutorial here! And how to make the Front Post Half Double Crochet Stitch (FPHDC), tutorial here!

 

Starting from the beginning, make chains in the multiple of 2 + 3

❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈

Row 1: Make 1 HDC into the 4th CH from your hook

Then make 1 HDC into each CH across to complete this row

Row 2: Make 2 CHs, these CHs count as 1 HDC, so you can skip the 1st ST

Then make 1 HDC into each ST across to complete this row

Row 3: Make 2 CHs, these CHs count as 1 HDC, so you can skip the 1st ST

*Make 1 FPHDC over the next previous HDC 2 rows down

Make 1 regular HDC into the next ST

Repeat the steps above from * until you only have 1 ST left

Make 1 HDC into the last ST to complete this row

Row 4: Make 2 CHs, these CHs count as 1 HDC, so you can skip the 1st ST

Then make 1 HDC into each ST across to complete this row

Row 5: Make 2 CHs

Make 1 HDC into each of the 1st 2 STs

*Make 1 FPHDC over the next previous HDC 2 rows down, then make 1 regular HDC into the next ST

You'll be making these FPHDC STs between the ones you made in Row 3

Repeat the step above from * until you only have 1 ST left

Make 1 HDC into the last ST to complete this row

Row 6: Make 2 CHs, these CHs count as 1 HDC, so you can skip the 1st ST

Then make 1 HDC into each ST across to complete this row

 

 

 

You would now repeat Rows 3, 4, 5 & 6 in order for however long your want your project

This is what the Half Double Crochet Alpine Stitch should look like when completed!
