Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on how to make the Fantail Shell Stitch!
First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Single Crochet Stitch (SC), tutorial here! How to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here! And how to make the Double Crochet V Stitch (DC V), tutorial here!
Starting from the beginning, make chains in the multiple of 10 + 1

Row 1: Make 1 SC into the 2nd CH from your hook

Make 1 SC into the next CH

*Skip 3 CHs, make (3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC) into the next CH

Skip 3 CHs, make 1 SC into the next CH, CH 1, skip 1 CH, make 1 SC into the next CH

Repeat the steps above from * until you only have 4 CHs left


Make 1 SC into the 2nd to last CH and 1 SC into the last CH to complete this row

Row 2: Make 2 CHs

Make 1 DC into the 1st ST

*Make 3 CHs

Make 1 SC into the next previous CH 1 space

Make 3 CHs

Make 1 DC V (1 DC, CH 1, 1 DC) into the next previous CH space

Repeat the steps above from * until you only have 2 STs left


Make 1 DC into each of the last 2 STs to complete this row

Row 3: Make 2 CHs

Make 3 DC into the 1st ST

*Make 1 SC into the CH to the right of the next previous SC, make 1 CH, SK that SC, make 1 SC into the next CH

SK to next previous DC V space, make (3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC) into that space

Repeat the steps above from * until you only have 2 STs left


Make 4 DC into the last ST to complete this row

Row 4: Make 1 CH

Make 1 SC into the 1st ST

*Make 3 CHs

Make 1 DC V (1 DC, CH 1, 1 DC) into the next previous CH space
Make 3 CHs
Make 1 SC into the next previous CH 1 space
Repeat the steps above from * until you only have 1 ST left


Make 1 SC into that last ST to complete this row

Row 5: Make 1 CH

Make 1 SC into the 1st ST, then make 1 SC into CH space

*SK to next previous DC V space, make (3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC) into that space
Make 1 SC into the CH to the right of the next previous SC, make 1 CH, SK that SC, make 1 SC into the next CH
Repeat the steps above from * until you only have 1 ST left


Make 1 SC into last CH space, then make 1 SC into the last ST to complete this row
You would now repeat Rows 2, 3, 4 & 5 in order for however long you want your project
