Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on how to make the Open Lace Shell Stitch!
First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch.
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Single Crochet Stitch (SC), tutorial here! How to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here!
Starting from the beginning, make chains in the multiple of 10 + 12
❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈

Row 1: Make 1 SC into the 2nd CH from your hook

*Make 5 CHs

Skip 4 CHs, make 1 SC into the next CH


Repeat the steps above from * for the rest of this row

Row 2: Make 5 CHs

Make 1 SC into the previous CH 5 space

*Make 5 DC into the next previous SC

Make 1 SC into the next previous CH5

Make 5 CHS

Skip to the next previous CH 5, make 1 SC into that space

Repeat the steps from * until you reach the last ST of this row

Make 2 CHs


Make 1 DC into that last ST to complete this row
Row 3: Make 1 CH

Make 1 SC into the 1st ST

*Make 5 CHs

Make 1 SC into the middle DC of the previous 5

Make 5 CHS

Make 1 SC into the previous CH 5 space

Repeat the steps above until you have 1 SC + some CHs at the end of this row


Skip that 1 SC, make 1 SC into the CHs at the end of this row to complete

Row 4: Make 3 CHs

Make 2 DC into the 1st ST

Make 1 SC into the next previous CH 5 space

*Make 5 CHS

SK to next previous CH 5 space, make 1 SC into that space

Make 5 DC into the next previous SC

Make 1 SC into the next previous CH 5 space
Repeat the steps above from * until you reach the last ST in this row


Make 3 DC into that last ST to complete this row

Row 5: Make 1 CH

Make 1 SC into the 1st ST

*Make 5 CHs

SK to previous CH 5 space, make 1 SC into that space

Make 5 CHs

Make 1 SC into the middle DC of the previous 5 DC

Repeat the steps above from * until you have 3 STS + some CHs at the end of this row


Skip those 3 STs, make 1 SC into the tops of those CHs at the end of the row to complete
You would now repeat Rows 2, 3, 4 & 5 in order for however long you want your project

This is what the Open Lace Shell Stitch should look like when completed!
