Thanks for visiting my page! Here is a written tutorial with photos on how to make the Southern Lights Stitch!
First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this stitch
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Half Double Crochet Stitch (HDC), tutorial here! And how to make the Extended Single Crochet Stitch (ESC), tutorial here!
Starting from the beginning, make chains in the multiple of 2 + 3
❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈ ❈
Row 1: Make 1 HDC into the 3rd CH from your hook
*Skip 1 CH, make 1 ESC + 1 HDC into the next CH
Repeat the step above from * until you only have 2 CHs left
Skip 1 CH, make 1 HDC into the last CH to complete this row
Row 2; Make 2 CHs
Skip 2 STs, make 1 ESC + 1 HDC into the next ST
*Skip 2 STs, make 1 ESC + 1 HDC into the next ST
Repeat the step about from * until you only have 2 STs left
Skip 1 ST, make 1 HDC into the last ST to complete this row
You would now alternate repeat Row 2 for however long you want your project
This is what the Southern Lights Stitch should look like when completed!
