Here is the free pattern/tutorial:
Materials:
Yarn – Any yarn will work – I used Medium/DK weight for my example blanket
Crochet hook – Any hook will work – I used a ‘I’ hook for my example blanket – 5.5 MM
Scissors
Stitch Markers
Crochet Stitches Needed:
Chain – CH
Stitch – ST
Skip – SK

Pattern:
Make chains in the multiple of 3 + 1, I made 154 CHs for my example blanket
Row 1: Make 1 SC into the 2nd CH from your hook, then make 1 SC into each CH across to complete this row
Row 2: Make 3 CHs (these CHs count as 1 DC), *SK 1 ST,
Make 1 (3 DC) CL ST into the next ST:
Yarn over 1 time, insert your hook into that ST, grab that yarn and pull it through, pulling up 1 loop on your hook, yarn over 1 time, take that yarn through 2 loops on your hook, that will be the bottom of 1 DC, yarn over your hook 1 time, insert your hook back into that same ST, grab that yarn and pull it through, pulling up 1 loop on your hook, yarn over 1 time, take that yarn through 2 loops on your hook, yarn over your hook 1 time, insert your hook back into that same ST, grab that yarn and pull it through, pulling up 1 loop on your hook, yarn over 1 time, take that yarn through 2 loops on your hook, you'll have the bottom of 3 DCs on your hook, yarn over your hook 1 time, take that yarn through all of the loops on your hook to complete
SK 1 ST, make (1 DC, CH 2, 1 DC) into the next ST, repeat the steps above from * until you only have 1 ST left, make 1 DC into that last ST to complete this row
Row 3: Make 3 CHs (these CHs count as 1 DC), *SK 1 ST,
Make that same 1 (3 DC) CL ST into the next previous CH 2 space:
Yarn over 1 time, insert your hook into that ST, grab that yarn and pull it through, pulling up 1 loop on your hook, yarn over 1 time, take that yarn through 2 loops on your hook, that will be the bottom of 1 DC, yarn over your hook 1 time, insert your hook back into that same ST, grab that yarn and pull it through, pulling up 1 loop on your hook, yarn over 1 time, take that yarn through 2 loops on your hook, yarn over your hook 1 time, insert your hook back into that same ST, grab that yarn and pull it through, pulling up 1 loop on your hook, yarn over 1 time, take that yarn through 2 loops on your hook, you'll have the bottom of 3 DCs on your hook, yarn over your hook 1 time, take that yarn through all of the loops on your hook to complete
SK 1 ST, make (1 DC, CH 2, 1 DC) into the next previous CL ST, repeat the steps above from * until you only have some CHs left at the end of this row, make 1 DC into the top of those CHs to complete this row
You would now alternate between Rows 2 & 3 for however long you want your project
