Here is the free pattern/tutorial:
Materials:
Yarn – Any medium weight yarn will work
Crochet hook – Any hook will work – I used a I hook for my example cowl – 5.0 MM
Scissors
Stitch Markers
Crochet Stitches Needed:
Chain – CH
Stitch – ST
Skip – SK
Slip Stitch (SL ST):

Pattern:
Ribbed Band: CH 8
Row 1: 1 SC into 2nd CH from your hook, 1 SC into each CH across
Rows 2: (BLO) CH 1, 1 SC in each ST across
Repeat Row 2 for how wide you want your Ribbed Band
Fasten Off your work: Video tutorial here and step by step photo tutorial here!
Take ribbed band made and crochet the ends together with a SC row down the edge. It will create a ribbed effect to made the ribbed edge just made, Fasten Off, Weave Ends
BODY:
Facing the seam made on the ribbed edge, attach yarn to the stitch to the right of the seam
Row 1: CH 1, 1 SC into each ST around, SL ST into the 1st ST to complete this row
Row 2: (Start at any ST) CH 3, 2 DC into same ST, *SK 2 STs, 3 DC into the next ST, repeat from * around, SL ST into the 1st ST to complete this row
Row 3: (Start at any space between blocks of 3 STs) CH 3, *1 DC SP into ST below, 1 DC into same CH space, *SK 3 STs, 1 DC into next space between STs, repeat from * around, SL ST into the 1st ST to complete this row
You would now repeat Row 3 for how long you want your hat
When you’re ready to finish your hat,
