First, with any project you'll need a crochet hook and yarn. Any yarn or hook will do for learning this motif.
For this tutorial you'll need to know how to make Chains (CH), I have a tutorial here! How to make the Slip Stitch (SL ST), tutorial here! How to make the Single Crochet Stitch (SC), tutorial here! How to make the Half Double Crochet Stitch (HDC), tutorial here! And how to make the Double Crochet Stitch (DC), tutorial here!
There are several ways to start this motif. You can use the Magic Ring/Circle/Loop, I have a tutorial here! The Chain 4 method, I have a tutorial here! Or the Slip Stitch Method, I have a tutorial here!
I will be using the Chain 4 Method for my tutorial

Row 1: Start with your circle, playlist above! I'm starting with 4 CHs
Make 3 CHs if you are using another circle method, then make 1 DC
I made 1 DC into the 4th CH from my hook
*Make 2 CHs
Make 2 DC into circle center
Repeat from * around until you have 6 sets of 2 DC and 6 sets of CH 2
SL ST into the 1st CHs/DC made in this row to complete
Row 2: Start at any previous CH 2 space. Make 4 CHs
Make 1 SC into the same previous CH space
*Make 3 CHs, Skip to next previous CH 2 space
Make: 1 SC, CH 3, 1 SC into that previous CH 2 space
Repeat the steps above from * around
SL ST into the 1st CHs made in this row to complete
Row 3: Start at any previous CH 3 corner space, Make 4 CHs
Make 1 SC into the same previous corner space
*Make 3 HDC into the next side space
Into next corner space make: 1 SC, CH 3, 1 SC
Repeat the steps above from * around
SL ST into the 1st CHs in this row to complete
Row 4: Start at any previous corner space, Make 4 CHs
Make 1 DC into same corner space
Make 1 DC V into middle HDC of previous 3
Into next corner space: 1 DC V, CH 3, 1 DC V
Repeat the steps above from * around, SL ST into the 1st CHs made in this row to complete
Row 5: Start at any previous corner space, Make 4 CHs
Make 1 SC into same corner space
Make 3 HDC into next previous DC V ST
Make 3 HDC into each next previous DC V ST until you reach the next corner space
Corner space: 1 SC, CH 3, 1 SC
Repeat the steps above from * around, SL ST into the 1st CHs made in this row to complete
